How To Survive A Shipwreck.

I'd like to tell you a little story from my weekend. On Sunday, some friends and I decided to steam out to a little island in the middle of the bay for a picnic. After a few hours of enjoying the sun and eating enough hot dogs to keep me full for weeks, we decided to head back.

We got about 150 feet away from the shore when we felt a big bump under the boat. And then, we began to tip.

I have never been on a sinking ship before, but let me tell you, everyone except me ran to the bow of the boat while I held on for dear life shouting, "I don't want to die!"

Turns out, we didn't die. I hopped into the row boat we were towing and paddled around while the tide began to get even lower. We had to wait around eight hours for the tide to go out and come back in so the boat would be wedged free.

Oy. A very damaged propeller was the only problem. Thank goodness for wooden boats.

We were able to build a fire on the ledge as the tide went out and we dug up some mussels to eat.

The experience taught me that I've become a Mainer. I'm calm under pressure. I can handle the ocean. I'm content (for the most part) being stuck on a boat in the middle of an ocean ledge for an entire day. I might need an anchor tattoo next.

Smelly.

I need a new summer scent. I've heard good things about Fresh's perfumes.

Anyone have any suggestions? I don't like fruity and I like a soft, feminine scent.

Also, gold perfume wands exist, apparently.

Big Project.

I have a few mismatched pieces in my living room. A floral chair. Pillows that need to be recovered. A kinda dingy ottoman. I've finally decided to purchase some fabrics and recover them. All of them.

My new chair will be reupholstered in this. (And yes. I am attempting to do this myself. Help!)

My ottoman will be receiving a second life in this.

And this for my pillows.

For $35, my living room is going to look completely different!

Good News.

Friends,

Last week I got some great news. I've landed a dream job. The kind that don't open up too often. I'll be writing for my favorite company. I'm pinching myself.

I just thought I'd share the news with you. I am going to celebrate with friends and good food and probably some booze this weekend. Cheers!

Enamelware.

Viva Terra has some gorgeous enamelware on sale right now and I'm literally trying to slap my hand from clicking "add to cart" and "purchase".

If you aren't practicing self-restraint, click on over and see the collection.

Carnivals.

Summer always reminds me of going to carnivals at the beach, waiting in line to go on the scrambler and eating so much cotton candy with my best friend that she'd inevitably peuk (though she'd always claim it was the heat that made her sick).

Naturally, I love Simply Hue's photos of the fairgrounds.

Next Haircut.

My hair is super long. Past my shoulders. But I plan on cutting it like this the next time I'm ready to let it go.

Entry.

I'm trying to piece together a nicer entryway to our apartment...especially now that Lobsterman has made us a beautiful console out of reclaimed wood. I think this would hang oh so nicely over it.

It says "home sweet home" to me, don't you think? How was your weekend? I spent 16 hours in a car but it was worth it to attend a sweet wedding.

Weddings.

Did you know that in February, one of my very best friend is getting MARRIED? And did you know that I have the honor of being MAID OF HONOR?! Needless to say, it's had me visiting all the wedding blogs - and here are some images that I keep on hand.

I pretty much would want to look like this if I ever get hitched.

Totally cute bridal party

More bridesmaid cuteness

Embroidered wedding invitations?! Unreal!

I can't get anything about this wedding out of my head. Perfection.

Mini Adventure.

Over the weekend I took a two hour ferry ride out to explore one of Maine's islands in Casco bay. I loved it.

I packed up my bean bag and read my book to pass the time...

Then I scoped things out...

Only 51 people live on this island year round. How cool is that? I love living in Maine.

Outdoor Oasis.

Summer is almost (officially) here. All I want to do with my weekends is dine alfresco with friends and eat juicy burgers and drink some margaritas. Here's a few things I'd like to have at an outdoor soiree.

Biodegradable cold cups (for said margaritas)

Colorful melamine plates so as not to be wasteful. Plus - so much prettier than paper!

Lovely lanterns so we can stay outside, even when the sun goes down.

A giant picnic blanket so I can sit back and look at the stars.
