How To Survive A Shipwreck.

I'd like to tell you a little story from my weekend. On Sunday, some friends and I decided to steam out to a little island in the middle of the bay for a picnic. After a few hours of enjoying the sun and eating enough hot dogs to keep me full for weeks, we decided to head back.

We got about 150 feet away from the shore when we felt a big bump under the boat. And then, we began to tip.

I have never been on a sinking ship before, but let me tell you, everyone except me ran to the bow of the boat while I held on for dear life shouting, "I don't want to die!"

Turns out, we didn't die. I hopped into the row boat we were towing and paddled around while the tide began to get even lower. We had to wait around eight hours for the tide to go out and come back in so the boat would be wedged free.

Oy. A very damaged propeller was the only problem. Thank goodness for wooden boats.

We were able to build a fire on the ledge as the tide went out and we dug up some mussels to eat.

The experience taught me that I've become a Mainer. I'm calm under pressure. I can handle the ocean. I'm content (for the most part) being stuck on a boat in the middle of an ocean ledge for an entire day. I might need an anchor tattoo next.

I possibly would have freaked out. Also, don't eat seafood so I would have starved. You did yourself proud and what a cool story you have now!

Oh my goodness, glad you are all okay. And I'm quite impressed with you all just staying calm, digging up clams, making a fire. Making the most of a bad situation to say the least.
